Improving Quality

Doctors and other members of the Washington heart care community developed the Clinical Outcomes Assessment Program (COAP) to improve the quality of care for all patients receiving certain heart procedures in Washington. COAP’s goals are to decrease undesirable variation in practices, and to improve outcomes in all 35 participating hospitals.

Assessing Participation

The 35 hospitals participating in COAP get regular feedback about their quality of care, data completeness and accountability for improvement. The hospitals use this feedback to guide QI efforts. Twice a year, COAP reviews their progress, and the results determine their participation status. Click here for information on the standards covered in each assessment, the categories of participation, and definitions of terms related to the assessment process and participation status.
