State Benchmarks

What is the difference between the state average and the state benchmark? COAP is now highlighting hospitals that have the best outcomes in the state for certain measures for both coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) and percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI).

The state average is a measure of the rate of performance for a particular outcome (like the incidence of stroke following CABG surgery) for all hospitals across Washington. The state benchmark is a measure of the top performing hospitals in Washington for a certain outcome.

Visit our Publicly Released COAP Data pages (under our “For the Public” section of the menu above) to learn more about benchmarks and to see which hospitals had the best outcomes for certain measures in 2009. Washington State hospitals are doing an excellent job with cardiac care, and have much to be proud of!
